Llawen

The text on this site is set in Llawen, a work in progress. It’s a refinement of Exuberance Primary, the font I released back in 2005, redrawn to accommodate more weights, features and languages.

Llawen is designed to be friendly and warm, with influences from handwriting - ideal for educational publishing. It is also designed to be versatile; there are a number of alternate letterforms available that you can choose to dial down the handwriting style in favour of something more formal:

At the time of writing, Llawen is not quite finished. While most of the glyphs are drawn, there are some wonky curves in a few places and the kerning needs some work. But as I tweak and refine those glyphs in FontLab, and commit those changes to the repository in Github, the site will be updated with the new fonts.

Incidentally, Llawen is the Welsh word for ‘merry’. The ‘ll’ sound in Welsh is pronounced like this.
